Sgian Dubh

The Sgian Dubh, Gaelic: sgian (knife or dagger), dubh (black) was originally used as a hidden weapon, something to rely on when you'd lost your sword. In company, it was traditional to take it from its hiding place and place it in the stocking where it could be seen.

It was normally black as the handle was carved from black bog oak.
