A Sgian Dubh with a clan crest inset in the handle. The thistle metal work is in pewter with a plated finish of palladium ensuring it will not scratch or tarnish, while the blade is made from stainless steel. Black simulated handle and sheath.

Sgian is Gaelic for knife or dagger and Dubh is Gaelic for black – ‘black dagger’. These traditionally had black handles but there was a hidden meaning to black – literally hidden and secret! The knife would be hidden in the clothing and used as a weapon of last resort. However, as a mark of courtesy to a host the knife would be worn in an open manner – prominently in the hose.
