Not every kilt needs a Prince Charlie jacket and a wedding invitation.

Sometimes you want to pull on a kilt for a rugby match, walk, Highland games, festival, ceilidh or weekend away — or simply because you'd rather wear a kilt than trousers. That's what our 5-Yard Casual Kilt is for.

It retains the character and movement of a proper wool tartan kilt but uses less cloth than our traditional kilts, giving it a lighter, more relaxed feel.

Five yards — deliberately

A traditional formal kilt uses considerably more cloth to create its depth of pleating and characteristic swing. Our Casual Kilt uses approximately five yards of lightweight tartan.

That isn't about trying to make a formal kilt more cheaply. It's a different style of kilt for a different purpose.

The reduced volume gives it a lighter, more relaxed feel, while retaining the pleating, movement and unmistakable character of a traditional kilt. It's an excellent choice when comfort and practicality matter more than the fuller presence of formal Highland dress.

This is the kilt we'd look at for walking and outdoor events, football or rugby internationals, Highland games, festivals, ceilidhs, holidays and relaxed everyday wear.

Pair it with boots and knitwear, a rugby shirt, casual jacket or whatever happens to suit the day. There aren't many rules here. That's rather the point.

Your Casual Kilt is made to order in Scotland using the measurements you provide. You'll find straightforward measuring instructions when ordering, and if you're unsure about anything, please ask us before placing your order.

Please allow up to six weeks for dispatch. If you need your kilt for a particular match, trip, gathering or event, contact us first if time is tight — we can often arrange to fast-track an order.

UK delivery is free and tracked, with no minimum order value. Every international order is tracked too, with duties-paid delivery available to the USA and selected European countries.
