The story behind the piece
A piece of Scottish character, made to be worn well and kept for years.
Your kilt. Your tartan. Made in Scotland.
A kilt should feel as though it belongs to you.
Perhaps it's the tartan your family has worn for generations. Perhaps you're looking for a district with a special connection, the colours for a wedding, or simply a tartan that catches your eye.
Whatever brings you to it, we'll make your kilt individually to your measurements in Scotland, from some of the finest tartan cloth woven today.
Start with the tartan
Choosing a tartan ought to be one of the pleasures of buying a kilt, not an exercise in scrolling through hundreds of tiny swatches.
Our Tartan Finder lets you search directly by name, browse by clan, district or popularity — even by colour — or explore Modern, Ancient, Weathered, Hunting, Dress and other variants.
And there isn't a rule that says you must wear the tartan associated with your surname. You might choose your father's or mother's family tartan, your partner's, a district that means something to you, colours that work particularly well for a wedding — or simply a tartan you love.
Whether you know exactly what you're looking for or haven't the faintest idea where to begin, you can explore hundreds of tartans until something feels right.
Our flagship: Signature Highland
For most customers, this is where we'd start.
Our Signature Highland Kilt is made in premium mediumweight pure wool: substantial enough to hang and swing beautifully, yet comfortable enough for weddings, Highland gatherings, formal occasions and regular wear.
Depending on your chosen tartan, we use premium kilting cloth including Lochcarron of Scotland's 13oz Braeriach and Strathmore Woollen Company's 14oz W60 ranges.
Mediumweight doesn't mean a lesser kilt. These are premium kilting fabrics chosen for their balance of drape, handle, comfort and durability — and they're what we'd recommend for the great majority of wearers.
Classic Heavy
For the weight and presence of a traditional heavyweight kilt, choose Classic Heavy .
We use Lochcarron of Scotland's 16oz Strome , woven in Selkirk from 100% pure Scottish wool and regarded as one of Scotland's benchmark kilting fabrics.
Its additional weight gives the kilt exceptional drape and movement, making it particularly suited to traditional Highland dress, pipe-band wear, or simply anyone who prefers the feel and presence of a heavier kilt.
Old & Rare — heritage cloth for harder-to-find tartans
Our Old & Rare collection opens up distinctive clan, district and historic tartans woven by House of Edgar using traditional single-width kilting cloth.
Single-width weaving has deep roots in Scottish textile history. House of Edgar continues this specialist method today, producing cloth with a traditional kilting selvedge , specifically suited to the craft of kiltmaking.
These tartans cost more to weave and consequently carry an additional charge, but considerably extend the choice available. If you're looking for a less common family, district or historic tartan, this may be where you find it.
Made to measure, not taken from a rack
Your kilt is made specifically for you.

A kilt made to be worn
A good kilt isn't something you buy for one photograph and put away.
It should come out for weddings and celebrations, Burns Night and Hogmanay, Highland gatherings and family occasions — and acquire a history of its own along the way.
Choose the cloth. Select your tartan. Give us your measurements.
We'll make the rest in Scotland.
Take Your Measurements
Don't panic - measuring could not be simpler. First, get a tape measure and an assistant to help you. Empty your pockets of everything.
1. Waist : Stand straight and ask your assistant to run the tape measure around your waist at your belly button. The tape should be comfortably tight.
2. Seat / Hips : Take a measurement around the fullest part of your hips.
3. Kilt Length : Kneel on the floor and make sure you are upright, ask your assistant to measure from your tummy button to the floor.
As a guide your kilt length should be approximately 1/3 of your height. Any questions? Contact us - we're here to help you.
