Topaz is a block check of sage green, charcoal, pale blue and navy, the greens and blues of early spring. The colours are calm but the scale is bold, so it works as the one pattern in a room of plain colours. It is especially good with green walls, grey upholstery or oak.

A block check is built from broad squares of colour. Where the warp and weft cross, each square shades into a new tone, so a handful of yarns gives many more colours on the finished cloth. This block check throw is woven in Scotland by The Isle Mill from 100% merino lambswool and measures 140 × 180cm, including 10cm purled fringes, large enough to cover a sofa seat or the foot of a double bed.
